Part One: To the Temple

Dae’hir was born to an unremarkable family, just one of thousands trying to forge a living during a rough economic period on the capital world of Courscant. Dae’hir’s father, a minor political figure worked seemingly all the time, especially during Dae’hir’s youth as he was born during the conflict between the Republic and the Sith empire. The only up side was that he lived close to the Jedi temple.

He and his friends would play ‘Jedi’, picking up long sticks and mimicking the duels they sometimes spied the Jedi doing. They even mimicked the buzzing sound of the lightsabers, laughing as the other banged his stick into the others arm after sneaking past his defences. Dae’hir never noticed but many of the young boys began to not want to play this with Dae’hir that much, because he always seemed to start winning and of course like any youngsters they’d begin to pout.

But Dae’hir loved this game and so, his mother would force his older brother to indulge him. Despite the age and strength difference his much older brother still had a hard time ‘beating up’ his younger brother (and trust me, he really was trying, but to Dae’hir it was still just a game and had no idea his brother was really trying to hit him...hard. His laughter as he evaded another almost skull caving blow, only infuriated his older brother all the more and causing Dae’hir jabs to hit home more often, it was a vicious cycle, much to his brothers chagin).

Unknown to Dae’hir a pair of eyes had been watching him. At first out of curiosity at boys playing, but over time with more intent. The eyes losing their curious look, to one of serious contemplation.

And so, one day while playing Jedi the same thing was happening, each dodging the others attacks, jumping back spinning, making the buzzing sounds. After a quick exchange they separated and had the commonplace face off, measuring each other. Then his brother froze and lowered his ‘saber’. He stared over Dae’hir’s shoulder awestruck at what he saw. Dae’hir’s smile left his face as he viewed his brothers and of course knew that somebody was behind him. Still playing the game Dae’hir spun, swinging his stick in a low arc intended to attack the lower leg of whoever was behind him. Four legs quickly jumped up, avoiding the attack. As Dae’hir finished his swing he took up his defensive position with his back to his brother, facing whatever had been behind him. Like his brother, Dae’hir’s jaw dropped and eyes widened. Facing him were two Jedi. Real ones.

“You were right Padawan, he does have potential”
“Thank you Master”
“Come here boy” Dae’hir obeyed after making the buzzing sound of putting away a lightsaber.
“What is your name?”
“Dae’hir Master” he piped enthusiastically
“I am not your master Dae’hir” his stern response wiping the smile from Dae’hir’s face and causing him to bow his head.
Seeing his obvious disappointment “Well, not yet, we shall see young one” causing Dae’hir to look back at the Jedi Master with some hope returning.
“My brother is to be a Jedi?” He was both surprised and kinda happy, now he won’t have to play Jedi anymore. But his initial smile quickly vanished as he realised in the future, he’ll never be able to beat up his brother.
“Maybe, where do you live. We need to discuss this with your parents”

“My son is to be a Jedi?” His father beamed. He thought only of how this will now further his political career. My son is a Jedi...wow, that will carry a lot of weight with his political superiors. “Of course he can go”
“But” His mother, of course interjecting “I can see him?”
“Sorry mi’lady, but that will not be possible for awhile, he will need to focus on his training and not with the emotional entanglements of family”
Dae’hir was just smiling from ear to ear, having no idea what was really being said, only picking up that he was going to the temple. All he could see was the glow of a real lightsaber in his hand with it’s own humm. “I won’t need to make buzzing sounds anymore” he whispered to his brother smiling. His brother just whacked Dae’hir’s head. “What was that for?” “Cause after today, I won’t ever be able to do it again” For all their fighting, his brother really was sad and even moreso because he knew Dae’hir had no idea the enormity of what was about to happen. He was losing his brother today. He ran out, before anybody could see the tears forming. Dae’hir confused, looked around, his mother’s head was bowed, his father smiling and looking at nothing in particular, the Jedi Master still talking something to his parents. Only the Padawan was looking at him, studying him. Dae’hir locked eyes with the Jedi. The Jedi gave him a slight smile and nod and Dae’hir’s dream became true.
His mother held him tightly, kissing him over and over. He father smiling patted him on the back “Be a great Jedi son! HA, my son’s a Jedi”
“Not yet sir, we shall see” but the Jedi Master’s comments truly fell on deaf ears as Dae’hir’s father began having his own dreams.
“Let’s go Dae’hir and we shall show you your new home”

With the awe of discovery Dae’hir passed through what he previously had only ever seen from a distance.

The great doors of the Jedi Temple.
